Gillingham Business Park is an established self-contained mixed-use business park situated between London, the Channel Tunnel and the South East coast ports of Folkestone and Dover. The Park comprises a mature development of some 100 acres (40 hectares) providing over 140,000sqm (1,500,000 sq ft) of industrial, office, retail, and leisure accommodation.

 

THE CHALLENGE

Historically the Business Park has had a manned guarding presence for over 15 years with the added element of extensive CCTV coverage and Access Control. The customer had a specific idea as to how the Park security function should continue going forward and was actively seeking suitable, quality, local service providers to improve the overall concept of maintaining a very difficult blend of effective but accommodating security service provision. The Park needed to have a more managed attitude to be adopted by the incumbent security provider to give full support and back-up to the on-site staff that had a very real and arduous task to deal with the ever changing diverse situations that unfold on a daily basis.

 

THE OUTCOME

KM Security Solutions PLC, having listened to the specific brief required by the Park Manager, decided to investigate the possibility to combine the manned guarding and electronic requirements within one company where historically they have been performed by two or three separate companies. With the above in mind we decided to maintain the current level of manpower required but increase the quality of relief and support Officers when required to replace core team members for holidays, sickness and emergency cover. We also looked at the electronic requirements of the Park to dove-tail into our manned security to compliment the way we could give a total solution and ensure that all on-site staff had a full awareness of the extent of the CCTV system currently in place.

During the mobilisation period of the contract we were further challenged by the need to provide a replacement Security Officer for the contract award date to work alongside the two remaining members of staff. We managed to obtain the services of a very capable and customer focused individual whom we placed in front of the customer for sign off, of which was well received and therefore conducted training at The Park prior to the start date. The outcome of our proposals were that the customer found confidence in our capabilities and awarded us BOTH service provisions Manned Guarding and Electronic Security to The Park.
